Advertising can be sexy and at some point, most companies do it, even if it's only in a local charity magazine. But, how important is advertising? There are two views; some say that every company needs it. Not true. It depends your market and how much advertising budget you have to spend. It's about what we call critical mass. Others think that since that it doesn't work for them. This is also true in certain cases, though it may not work because it hasn't been done in the best way.

The advertising industry promotes itself heavily every year. If advertising is so good, maybe it would sell itself! The web or direct mail often provides an alternative solution, but you'll need to study your facts first and it can be difficult to get accurate information which isn't biased. If you're going to do it, do it right. Chose a hard-hitting campaign and run it over a sufficient period to gain 'awareness' and 'impact'.
